This is the 3rd Bon Odori festival held in Cebu, Philippines and compared to the past 2 celebrations, this 2016 undeniably surpassed its predecessors in terms of hype or publicity and potentially in guest arrivals.
I say potentially, since I haven’t really finished the event and lost track of the counting. Last update before I went home was around 4,000 people closing in to 5,000 and this was 2-3 hours before the event ended.
Anyway, the sheer volume of the participants was amazing. The huge space in front of the stage offered enough mobility, but the stall areas for foods and Japanese merchandise were nothing short of overcrowded (which is kind of disappointing since I really wanted to stay longer on each stall and take photos.)

Of course, the event wouldn’t be complete without the awaited Cosplay Competition!
..and the delectable Japanese treats!
The Fundoshi Boys!
The traditional Yagura!
The whole gang!
I saw one cosplayer sporting Osamu Dazai’s character from Bungou Stray Dogs and it’s such a waste we never had the chance to take a photos with him. So Dazai-san, if by some coincidence you end up reading this post, feel free to drop a message so we can all take your photo!
Any other Cebuanos out there who went to the event? How was your experience? Let’s hear them on the comments!
